The SOCHUM Committee is one of the six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly and it is the third committee of the United Nations. All 193 member states of the United Nations can participate in this committee and the SOCHUM committee makes more than sixty decisions every year. This committee addresses important issues such as protecting children, supporting women, preventing crimes and ensuring justice, supporting fundamental freedoms, reducing racist and discriminatory approaches to refugees and encouraging social developments.

So in the committee we will mostly focus on Iran and freedom of opinion. Iran does not have a bright history in human rights. Iranian people were waiting for some changes with the revolution. However, they did not reach their hopes. After the death of Mahsa Amini, protests against the regime and government became a threat to the government. However, freedom of thought has been a right that should be protected from the past to the present. In our conference, the delegates will talk about the protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, as well as the upheavals in Iran, and create solutions to these problems.

  • The violation of human rights in Iran
  • The right to freedom of opinion and expression
